If you want to be part of the SWAT team, there is a series of exams that you must pass to make this a reality. The first thing that you must do in order to be a SWAT team participant is to get hired as a police officer. I know that sounds elementary, but some people actually think that they can simply walk off the street and apply to be a SWAT team officer. Sorry folks, but it’s not that simple. In fact, you must apply and get hired as a police officer first before you can go into a specialized unit like the S.W.A.T team.
Here’s some general requirements that’s needed to become part of the S.W.A.T team:
You must apply and get hired as a police officer
You must have been on the department for at least one year
You must have went through your rookie year without any negative write-ups
You must possess a good work ethic
You must pass the polygraph test
You must pass the oral board interview
You must pass the psychological evaluation
You must be in good physical condition
That’s about it for all the requirements needed to become a SWAT team member. The most important things on that list is you must apply and get hired as a policemen. To get hired as quickly as possible, and separate yourself from the competition, you must get a top score on the oral board interview. You see the hiring panel put more emphasis on how well you do on your oral exam, than anything else.
So in conclusion, if you want to become a police officer as quickly as possible, and later become a SWAT team officer then the only thing you need to worry about RIGHT NOW is getting hired.

I was just wondering how much Military time you have to have to go SWAT? Do I have to time in a uniformed civilian Police Department? Can I have just years in the Military? Thanks
So what if you were in the military instead of being a police officer? Would you still be able to go straight twords SWAT or would you have to go and become an officer first
So what if you were in the military instead of being a police officer? Would you still be able to go straight towrds SWAT or would you have to go and become an officer first?
thanks
Even if you were going to join the Military, you would still need to take the test and become a Police Officer first. Then when you met the minimum requirements you would be able to apply for SWAT.
The Military won’t really play too much of a role for you to get into SWAT other than it is great experience and be of great assistance preparing for the SWAT try outs. You would still have to join a civilian police department and then apply for the agencies SWAT team from there…
There are SWAT type teams in the Military though.
Is there a combat medic in a SWAT team? If there is would I need to quit a job as a paramedic to get the year as a police officer?
Are there any eyesight requirements for joining?
can you be a military officer too. in order to become a part of the SWAT team ,and generally do they hire women or are they sexist?
Can you be a military police or do you hae to be a local police and also is it often that they hire women?
Is the oral board difficult?? And if so is their material they give us to study, or read. Is their a way we can prep before trying out for swat?? thank you.
If you apply for a police officer and get accepted…Do you still have to pass at least the minimum requirements to join SWAT even if you are the best in your “squad”??

So does more time in Civilian police greater your chance of getting into SWAT?
Also, how slim is the chance of being accepted onto a SWAT team?

Police – SWAT Team Requirements
Do you have what it takes to become a Police Officer? Better yet, do you have what it takes to become one of the Elite Police Officers? When a civilian calls 911 the police respond. When the police call 911 SWAT responds.
Police Officers rely on well trained SWAT Teams to help out when everything goes bad. Not just any Police Officer can make the SWAT Team Requirements.
Either you are SWAT or you are NOT.
